The Heights opened in September 2014 on the site of the old Caversham Nursery. This central Caversham location, just off the Gosbrook Road will be the school’s temporary home for up to two years.
The Heights Primary School can announce that the Education Funding Agency has completed the purchase of a private development site for its permanent home from September 2016. After an exhaustive search of over 40 public and privately owned sites in the Caversham Heights and Mapledurham area, a development site known as Highridge has been acquired on Upper Warren Avenue.
The site is less than half a mile from the centre of the school’s catchment, and extends to approximately one acre. It also benefits from close proximity to 25 acres of outdoor space at Mapledurham Playing fields, the Thames and South Oxfordshire’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which the school hopes will support its ambitions for a broad and varied outdoor curriculum.
The Trust recognises that developing a primary school in an established residential area is a very challenging process but we’re looking forward to working with our neighbours and the wider community to minimise any disruption and make our permanent home a facility that everyone can all feel proud of. The EFA will shortly start to progress the design work to enable a public consultation to take place later in the year before the submission of a planning application.
